If you are in the market for a PS5, I strongly suggest you try to find one at a more reputable, local retailer. So far this problem appears to be limited to only the Modern Warfare 2 PS5 bundles, sold by the official PlayStation Direct store. I don't really see how this would not be considered fraud though. I don't know if this story will become newsworthy, but the problem does not appear to be an isolated incident.
so its not like they don't understand the distinction. Sony's website specifically has a section where they offer 'Factory Recertified' hardware at discounted prices. Selling recertified hardware isn't the problem Trying to pass it off as brand new is the problem. I was far more troubled by the fact that Sony thought it was acceptable (or smart) to try to sneak these units past their customers. They did offer to let me return my console and wait for a replacement though. They attempted to downplay the significance of the deception though, assuring me that a refurbished console was just as good. When I contacted Sony's support team, they even acknowledged that my console was actually "Factory Recertified". In addition to the refurbished unit I received, there are more than a dozen other people so far, who have reported finding the same concealed label on the PS5 they received.
